Kierkegaard's stages can be connected to freedom of speech. In America, citizens have the right to life liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. However there are people, commonly teens, that abuse these rights. In knowing they're free they may say things that it is not their place to do so, or may even start riots like the recent ones at Keen state College. Theses people know their rights, and therefore think they are free to do anything they please. They are in the Aesthetic stage. Others, such as police officers they know their rights but use their power for the good of society. They comprehend that aesthetes are not truly free because their impulses are controlling them. They believe that the others are "acting off their impulses." Thus, they obtain a spot in the Ethical Stage.

Man's face when Japan surrendered
Japanese soldiers surrender their rifles
Ruins of Nagasaki
Victim of atomic bombing in Japan
Only remaining structure In Nagasaki
Truman authorized dropping the bombs on Japan because even though the bombing would cause great casualties in Japan it would save American lives, and help end the war faster. Both cities, Nagasaki, and Hiroshima were left in ruins. Short term wise, the cities were infested with radiation. Long term wise the children of people who were affected by radiation were born with diseases, and birth defects. The bombings ended the war in the Pacific the U.S had shown how powerful it could be. The Japanese were to damage to take another shot at the U.S, the Japanese were forced to surrender.

Beggining of WWII
The picture above displays a man who played a big role in causing WWII. He was the chancellor of Germany. Hitler secretly built their weapon supply. He then made two significant alliances. He wanted land back that had been taken away from Germany previously. He did not keep his words after making a promise to one of the countries he was allied to. The U.S knew Hitler wanted complete domination, and was afraid that if they didn't intervene he would try to conquer them as well. This was a one of the factors leading up to WW11

Cinderella Man Blog
Many social problems were caused by poverty in the 1930s. The Great depression took a toll on families. For instance, some families had to move into apartments rather than houses. For some families multiple children had to room together. Also, people couldn't afford their electric bill, water bill, etc, and often had these things shut off. Parents had to give up a sufficient amount of food to give it to their children. Men often waited outside to be chosen to work on the docks, and had their hearts broken if they weren't. Parents who found themselves in enough debt considered sending their children off to live with relatives. Resources ran short. Some adults resorted to taking wood from fences to keep fires going. Family relationships were strained. Husbands left their families to find work. Mother's couldn't afford to take their ill children to a doctor. Even soup lines, designed to help out, even ran out of food to supply people.

Prohibition
From 1920-1933 enough important people agreed that alcohol should be prohibited to make it happen. However instead of keeping citizens more under control, the law only made people more desperate for alcohol. People that got to be called bootleggers set up illegal shops where people could buy alcohol at higher prices. The locations where this business happened came to be known as speakeasies. The original purpose was to prevent Americans from consuming alcohol, but the plan backfired badly.
