World War I

The picture I chose is a picture of The Somme 1916. It's a photo of British, and American soldiers on their way to fight. It can be seen from everyone's body language that everyone in the photo has faith that they will be successful in the war. In fact, they were so confident that they volunteered to defend their country, as apposed to being drafted. This picture helps us to further understand World War One. The British, and American army of volunteers, shows how willing these people were to defend their nation.

JFK

The picture I chose is picture number twelve. This photo shows 20,000 people supporting JFK as he walks out of his hotel room, and goes on his way to the election. The photo captures how much passion people in the 1960s had about leadership. Clearly they were very enthusiastic about having the candidate they were rooting for chosen. This is unlike today when many people don't even exercise their right to vote. In the photo JFK looks inspired by all the praise. It shows that he appreciates his supporters.

The U.S.S. Maine was sent to Havana, Cuba to show power, and also to "protect American Interests in Cuba." The explosion of the U.S.S. Maine happened on February 15th 1898. The explosion increased the demand for war. Although there was no evidence to indicate that the Spanish were responsible Americans blamed theme.
