                                                                   UPDATED POST

Tenements are overcrowded apartments that are known for their horrendous conditions. The immigrants that came to the U.S were the typical residents of tenement houses. This picture gives an idea of a generally expected version of what a tenement house looked like. This picture specifically highlights the poor conditions, endured by immigrants in the 1800s. The homes were dirty, cluttered, and small. The conditions were almost unlivable but immigrants who had no other place o go were forced to endure them.

Original Post New York City Tenements

Tenements are over crowded apartments with very poor conditions. The houses were built to house the immigrants that came to the U.S. This image shows a typical tenement apartment in the 1800s. Clearly, the picture showcases the poor conditions. The homes were dirty, cluttered, and small. Also, the windows couldn't be opened. These tenements were almost not livable yet most immigrants had no other place to go.

Triangle Factory Fire (7)

A fire that took place in New York, called the Triangle Factory Fire was a great tragedy. One hundred and forty six immigrant workers died during the event. The fire showed how bad working conditions for those workers were. I chose this picture because it represents the same thing. In the photo young workers try to make clothing to provide for their family, meanwhile watching the young children. Overall, the picture shows the extent of the hard work young people went through during that time period.
